Oral and Periodontal Surgery
Periodontal Surgery
Thanks to our long-standing partnership with Dr. Farshid Sanavi, we also provide these surgical periodontal services for our patients when needed to help maintain healthy supporting structures for their dentition:
- Osseous Surgery
- Crown Lengthening
- Pocket Elimination
These procedures are done with your comfort in mind; we offer nitrous oxide, anxiety medications and very deep anesthesia. We make sure you are profoundly numb before and during the surgery. We further ensure your comfort by applying periodontal packing to the surgical area, and prescribing strong pain medication as needed.

Gingival Grafting
Gum recession is one of the leading causes of severe tooth sensitivity and tooth loss. It happens naturally with aging, but can also occur after orthodontic treatment due to lack of supporting bone on the outside of the teeth.
We offer different types of gum graft procedures, all with your comfort in mind.
- Free Gingival Grafts
- Connective Tissue Grafts
- Pedicle Grafts / Tunnel Grafts
- Tarnow Gingival Grafts
To minimize post-treatment discomfort, we fabricate stents to cover gum tissue donor sites, such as palate stents. This helps patients experience minimal pain and eat comfortably during the first week after surgery.
Surgical Extractions
Our first goal is always to preserve your natural teeth whenever possible. However, in some cases, a tooth may be too damaged, decayed, or impacted to be saved with a filling, crown, or root canal. When this happens, a surgical tooth extraction may be the best option to protect your oral health and relieve discomfort.
Deep profound anesthesia, use of anxiety medication, Nitrous oxide gas and pain less injection techniques and most importantly caring and gentle Doctors and staff allows us to take care of you with minimal distress or discomfort.during and after procedure.
When Is a Surgical Extraction Needed?
Unlike a simple extraction, which removes a loose tooth that is fully visible above the gumline, a surgical extraction is required when a tooth is:
- Broken off at the gumline
- Impacted (unable to fully erupt, such as some wisdom teeth)
- Has multiple diverging roots or has a large infection
- Extraction socket needs to be grafted with bone for future implant
Our experienced team uses advanced techniques and gentle anesthesia to keep you comfortable throughout the procedure. During a surgical extraction:
- The area is completely anesthetized so you won’t feel any pain.
- A small incision may be made in the gum tissue to access the tooth.
- In some cases, the tooth is sectioned into smaller pieces for easier removal.
- The site is cleaned of infection and rinsed with saline grafted with bone and covered by collagen barrier membrane and sutured to promote proper healing.
Most patients are surprised at how short and smooth the process is. We provide detailed aftercare instructions to help ensure a comfortable recovery.
Comfortable, Compassionate Care
We understand that the idea of surgery can feel overwhelming. That’s why we make patient comfort a top priority. Our caring team will guide you every step of the way—from preparing for your appointment to managing your recovery.
Bone Grafts
When teeth are missing, the jawbone in that area may begin to shrink over time. This loss of bone can make it harder to replace teeth with dental implants or other restorations. A bone graft is a simple, proven procedure we offer to rebuild and strengthen the jaw, so you can enjoy lasting oral health and a confident smile.
What Is a Bone Graft?
A bone graft is a treatment that adds or stimulates bone in areas where it has been lost. We use safe, biocompatible grafting materials that encourage your body to regenerate its own bone tissue. Over time, this creates a stable, healthy foundation for future restorations such as dental implants, bridges, or dentures.
You may benefit from a bone graft if:
- You’ve lost teeth and the jawbone has started to shrink
- You’re planning to receive dental implants but don’t have enough bone to support them
- You’ve had gum disease or trauma that caused bone loss
- You want to preserve your facial structure and avoid a “sunken” appearance after tooth loss
How the Procedure Works
Bone grafting is performed right here in our office at the time of dental extractions.
We usually use freeze dried mineralized sterilized cortical bone from cow or human donor origin from bone banks to fill the extraction socket with and cover it with collagen, barrier membrane, or other biocompatible type of membranes.
This new bone growth provides strength, stability, and support for a future dental implant or denture, or even if you decide not to replace the tooth. After a tooth is extracted, the bone and gum tissue in that area can begin to shrink or collapse over time. This bone loss can make it harder to place a dental implant, and may even affect the tooth next to the extraction site.

															Ridge Preservation
Ridge Preservation is a procedure performed immediately after a tooth extraction to protect the natural shape and strength of your jaw. During your extraction appointment, once the tooth has been removed: (Amir – did you mean to remove the steps from this section?)
The graft material encourages your body to preserve its natural bone, giving you a stronger, healthier foundation for future treatment—such as a dental implant, bridge, or denture.
Comfortable, Gentle Care
Ridge preservation is performed at the same time as a tooth extraction, so there’s no need for a second surgical appointment. Our team uses advanced techniques and gentle anesthesia to keep you comfortable, and we’ll provide clear instructions to guide you through recovery.
Ridge Preservation is part of our commitment to long-term oral health. If you need a tooth extracted and are considering options like implants in the future, ask us about ridge preservation to help protect your smile.
