Full Porcelain Crowns and Onlays

At Peace Valley Dentistry we use fill porcelain dental crowns to restore strength, function, and beauty to your smile. A crown is a custom-made “cap” that completely covers a tooth, protecting it while giving it a natural look and feel.
Why Choose a Porcelain Crown?
Crowns can be made from several materials, but we use porcelain crowns because they offer the best balance of strength and appearance. Porcelain mimics the color and translucency of natural enamel, so your restored tooth blends seamlessly with the rest of your smile. Unlike metal crowns, porcelain crowns are metal-free and will not leave a dark line near the gumline.
When Are Crowns Used?
We may recommend a crown if you:
- Have a tooth that is cracked, broken, or weakened.
- Need to restore a tooth after a large filling or root canal.
- Want to replace a missing tooth as part of a dental implant.
- Would like to improve the shape or color of a tooth.
Crowns for Natural Teeth or Implants
Porcelain crowns can be used in two ways:
- On a natural tooth: We carefully reshape the tooth and place a crown to restore its strength and appearance.
- On a dental implant: If a tooth is missing, we place an implant in the jawbone and top it with a porcelain crown for a permanent, natural-looking replacement.
Same-Day Cerec Crowns
With today’s advanced technology, many single crowns can be designed, crafted, and placed in just one visit. That means no temporary crowns and no waiting weeks for your permanent restoration—you’ll leave our office with a fully restored tooth the same day.
Using Sirona Cerec Prime Scan technology we scan, design and mill stain and glaze and bake your crown while you rest comfortably in the chair. You receive your crown during the same visit, about an hour later.
We also work with our local high tech dental laboratory to fabricate other brand of crowns – like Bruxzir, which we use for heavy clenchers or when there is not enough space for other type of crowns.
Onlays
Onlays are a type of porcelain restoration that cover parts of the restored tooth, unlike crowns that cover the whole tooth. Not every tooth can be restored with an onlay, and in many cases a full crown is a better solution. Nevertheless, because onlays are less invasive than crowns and often allow us to preserve more tooth structure, they have become very popular with patients.
We prepare, design, mill and bond porcelain onlays in a single visit using Cerec technology. Ask us if onlays might be the right treatment for restoring your tooth.
